5 Layer Minute Steak Ftira

Let’s just say, it’s a Maltese bajd u laħam ftira on steroids, with cheddar cheese and caramelised onions.  


Ingredients for 2 persons:

  • 10 Slices Minute Steak

  • 2 Maltese Ftira Bread

  • 6 Slices Cheddar Cheese

  • 2 White Onions

  • 2tbsp Butter

  • 1tbsp Brown Sugar

  • 6 Slices Collar Bacon

  • 2 Fresh Eggs

  • Baby Spinach Leaves

  • Worcestershire Sauce

  • Olitalia Extra Virgin Olive Oil

  • Balsamic Vinegar

  • Hellmann’s Chunky Burger Sauce

  • Salt & Pepper

Directions:

  1. Slice the bread in half, spread the butter, and gently fry it until it gets crispy.

  2. Slice the onions, add a teaspoon of olive oil to the pan, and gently fry them until softened. This should take around 5 minutes.

  3. Add the brown sugar and some drops of balsamic vinegar and season with salt and pepper.

  4. Let them caramelise on a low flame for about half an hour until they start getting dark. If they dry up add a couple of tablespoons of water.

  5. Fry the eggs and bacon in some oil.

  6. Then fry the minute steak in some oil and season it with Worcestershire sauce,  salt & pepper.

  7. Build your ftira starting off with the spinach, and then altering between the meat, onions, bacon, and eggs until you reach 5 layers of meat.

  8. Finish off with some burger sauce and serve with French fries or crisps.

  9. Enjoy…and don’t eat this every day!
